Have you ever felt it? That infinitesimally small moment in time when your heart stops in your chest, and you hear the tiny, almost inaudible click? Like two pieces of a puzzle fitting in perfectly, every inch of one holding the other, until it gets impossible to pull them apart without fraying the edges? Like a key fitting into a lock, the gears churning and there’s that—click.

That’s what I heard—that click, when I saw him for the first time. I stopped breathing for a few seconds. No, it wasn’t because he was the most handsome boy I’d ever laid eyes on. It was…something else. Something unexplainable. And I just knew, knew that he wasn’t just going to be a stranger in my life. He was different. It sounds ridiculous but…our fates, it felt like our fates, were entangled into each other’s; that this moment was destined from the very start; that this was the beginning of something life changing.

And I guess it was.
